OKEECHOBEE, Fla. – The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Okeechobee Feb. 12 for the first of five stops in the Gator Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.
“If cold weather comes back in, it will knock the fish back to deeper cover,” said National Guard pro Scott Martin of Clewiston, Fla. “Really, the fishing hasn’t peaked here yet, so stable weather will make the fishing even better. At tournament time the fish could be in a solid post-spawn mode and the topwater bite should be phenomenal.”
Takeoff and weigh-in will be at C. Scott Driver Park located at 10100 W. Highway 78 in Okeechobee, Fla. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Lake Okeechobee BFL tournament is being hosted by the Okeechobee County Tourism Council.
Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for the regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
