DECATUR, Ala. – The FLW American Fishing Series is headed to Wheeler Lake Nov. 4-6 for the season-ending Invitational. Up to 200 pros and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of $35,000 and $13,000, respectively.

“The fish here are like the rest of the Tennessee River chain,” said National Guard pro Jonathan Newton of Rogersville, Ala. “They’re going into their fall transition. The water is falling and going into the winter pool. I feel like a shallow bite is going to be really big for this event. Guys should throw things like small crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs around wood and rocks. You can still catch them in the 8- to 10-foot range, but I think you’ll really do good shallow.

“I think that 14 pounds a day would be pretty good for a guy during the tournament,” Newton added. “But you know, you could always catch a big stringer one day and bump up that average.”

Anglers will take off from Ingalls Harbor in Decatur, Ala., at 7 a.m. each morning. Daily weigh-ins will be held at Ingalls Harbor beginning at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The FLW American Fishing Series Invitational is being hosted by the Decatur Morgan County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The American Fishing Series consists of four divisions – Central, Northern, Southeast and Texas. Each division consists of three tournaments and competitors fished for valuable points to qualify for the American Fishing Series Invitational. The points champion from each division qualified for the 2011 Forrest Wood Cup and a fifth Forrest Wood Cup qualifier will advance from the Invitational that is open to the top 50 anglers from each division.
