PAYSON, Ariz. – National Guard FLW College Fishing is headed to Lake Roosevelt Sept. 25 for the fourth and final stop in the Western Division. Forty collegiate teams will be competing for a top award of $10,000 to be split evenly between the school and bass fishing club.

“Roosevelt is just a fun place to fish,” said FLW Tour pro Brett Hite of Phoenix. “There are a lot of really big fish in Roosevelt, I have seen some 12 and 13 pound bass caught out there, you just never know what your next bite is going to be. You can catch fish both shallow and deep, the visibility is outstanding and the lake offers a lot of cover to fish.

“”You can drop-shot or use a Carolina rig around structure, or if you want to stay shallow, spinnerbatis, crankbaits and topwater baits should all work,” added Hite. “I think a good weight for a one-day tournament would be about 15 pounds.”

Hite went on to say that seasons are beginning to change and the water temperature is dropping drastically. The fish will be transitioning from summer to fall patterns, so anglers should be prepared to adjust to the changing conditions.

Anglers will take off and weigh in at Cholla Recreation Site located five miles northwest of Roosevelt Dam on Highway 188 in Roosevelt. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 1:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

A complete list of registered College Fishing teams competing in the tournament is available online.

The top five teams from each tournament will qualify for the regional championship, where the first-place team wins $25,000 cash for their school and a Ranger 177TR bass boat for their fishing club. The top five teams from each regional advance to the national championship, where the first-place team wins $50,000 for their school and $25,000 cash and a Ranger 177TR bass boat for their fishing club.
