SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Guntersville Sept. 11-12 for the Choo Choo Division’s two-day Super Tournament. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
“This time of year the frog bite is great,” said National Guard pro Jonathan Newton of Rogersville, Ala. “It’s Lake Guntersville. You can catch them out on the ledges or however you want to catch them.
“The weights have been holding pretty well lately, but it’s slowing down just a little bit,” Newton added. “But you’ll still see a good number of big fish weighed.”
Takeoffs will be at Waterfront Tackle & Grill at Goose Pond located at 417 Ed Hembree Drive in Scottsboro, Ala. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. each day. Friday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3 p.m. while Saturday’s final weigh-in will be held at Walmart located on John T. Reid Parkway beginning at 4 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Lake Guntersville BFL tournament is being hosted by the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce.
The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings following the tournament will qualify for a regional championship where boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the FLW American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
