LAKE WYLIE, S.C. – The Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Wylie Sept. 11-12 for the South Carolina Division’s two-day Super Tournament. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.

“Usually this time of year topwater baits work good, and fishing docks can be good,” said FLW Tour pro Chris Baumgardner of Gastonia, N.C. “The lake gets tough this time of year, especially on the lower end. But in the backs of creeks or anywhere there’s a bit of flow will be good.

“Usually it’s a shallow bite, fishing around shoreline cover,” Baumgardner added. “In my opinion, this is the toughest month on Lake Wylie, but fishing still can be good.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Buster Boyd Landing located at 3990 Old Charlotte Highway in Lake Wylie, S.C. Takeoff is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. each day while weigh-in will begin at 3:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings following the tournament will qualify for a regional championship where boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the FLW American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
