LA CROSSE, Wis. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to the Mississippi River at La Crosse, Wis., Aug. 28-29 for the fifth and final stop in the Great Lakes Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.

“This is such a wonderful place to fish,” said FLW Tour pro Jim Tutt of Longview, Texas, who is a 10-year FLW Outdoors pro and whose favorite place to fish is the Mississippi River at La Crosse. “It is unique in that it’s untapped fishing and you can catch any type of fish there, including both large- and smallmouth bass.

“You can fish any pattern you want and either go 100 yards or 100 miles from the launch site and still catch fish; there are just so many options. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, swimbaits, topwater, frogs or buzzbaits all work. I think the winning pattern is going to be with a frog or swim jig.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Copeland West-Clinton Street Boat Ramp located at Clinton Street in La Crosse, Wis. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Mississippi River BFL tournament is being hosted by the Onalaska Center for Commerce and Tourism.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers that offers even bigger prizes to qualifiers of the regional championship and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
