PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to the Mississippi River on July 24 for the fourth of five stops in the Great Lakes Division series. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“This tournament is going to be a lot of fun because the fish are really biting right now,” said FLW pro Tom Monsoor of Lacrosse, Wis., who was practicing for the Forrest Wood Cup. “Frogs, swim jigs, Bitsy Bugs, and any of the Lethal Weapons found at Bob’s Bait Shop will produce big. There will also be a surface bite using buzzbaits, spooks, and Pop-Rs.

“There will be a lot of weedline fishing; the water is too high right now for the wing dams to be a factor. I think the winner is going to be in the backwater, not on the main river channel; it’s going to be a mix of large and smallmouths caught. If an angler finds a nice smallie bite he could easily win this thing. It will probably take 17-18 pounds to win.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Washington Street Park located at W. Washington & N. Main in Prairie Du Chien, Wis. Takeoff is scheduled for 5:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division league circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
