ELBERTON, Ga. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Russell June 12 for the fourth of five stops in the Savannah River Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“The lake is full of flooded and standing timber,” said Chevy pro Anthony Gagliardi of Prosperity, S.C., who has over a million dollars in career earnings. “It is very likely that the fish are going to be suspended in schools just above the tree line. Russell is a good topwater lake; Carolina rigging will also work here.

“In recent years the lake has been thriving with spotted bass; a guy can catch some really nice spots in the 3- to 4-pound range. They are going to be in the clear, deep water on the lower end of the lake, but it’s going to be the largemouth that comes out of the timber that will win this tournament.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Richard B. Russell State Park located at 2650 Russell State Park Road in Elberton, Ga. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
