GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Kentucky and Barkley lakes June 5 for the third of five stops in the LBL Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“The fishing is absolutely phenomenal right now and getting better,” said FLW Tour pro Dan Morehaead of Paducah, Ky., who has an FLW Tour and BFL win plus eight additional top-10 finishes on Kentucky-Barkley. “The flooding a couple of weeks ago was kind of a freak deal; right now we are within a foot of the summer pool. The fish are heading to offshore structures, and the bite just keeps improving. The shallow bite is over; anglers are going to have to start fishing deep-water structures to do well. Crankbaits, any kind of a jig, worms, Carolina rig – any of these types of baits should work well.

“The key to this tournament is going to be finding a large concentration of fish. Local influence will put a lot of pressure on the fish. Anglers are not going to want to sit in one place too long; if the fish aren’t biting, move on.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at the Kentucky Dam Marina located at 446 Marina Drive in Gilbertsville, Ky. Takeoff is scheduled for 5:30 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Kentucky-Barkley lakes BFL tournament is being hosted by the Marshall County Tourist Commission.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
