SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Guntersville June 5 for the fourth of five stops in the Choo Choo Division series. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“The fishing is unbelievable right now,” said FLW Tour pro Scott Canterbury of Springville, Ala., who got his largest one-day stringer at Guntersville, 24 pounds, 7 ounces. “The hydrilla and milfoil are really starting to come on strong, and the postspawn fish are starting to move out and get in their summer patterns. The best fish are going to be at the top of the milfoil in about 4 to 8 feet of water; if someone finds the right patch of grass, they could haul in five 5-pound bass in 10 minutes. It could be possible for someone to bring in a 28- 30-pound sack by flipping.

“One of the great things about Guntersville is that you can win doing just about any style of fishing. Sometimes the deep water gets a lot of pressure, so you just start fishing shallow and the bite is just as good. Topwater baits will work just as good as deep-water crankbaits, Carolina rigs and football jigs. It should be a great tournament.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Lake Guntersville State Park located at 7966 Alabama Highway 227 in Guntersville, Ala. Takeoff is scheduled for 5:30 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Lake Guntersville BFL tournament is being hosted by the Marshall County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
