CAMDEN, S.C. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Wateree May 22 for the fourth of five stops in the South Carolina Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“I would stick with offshore bank fishing,” said Chevy pro Anthony Gagliardi of Prosperity, S.C., who has a BFL win on Lake Wateree and has over $1 million in career earnings. “The fish are going to be postspawn and getting ready to move into deeper water. I would concentrate on those transition areas in about 10 to15 feet of water; I would be flipping jigs and soft plastics around piers and docks.”

Gagliardi added that Wateree is a river lake and that anglers should be watching out for big fluctuations in water levels this time of year; the rapid change in depths can really throw some anglers off their game.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Clearwater Cove Marina located at 2029 Baron Decalb in Camden, S.C. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
