OKEECHOBEE, Fla. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Okeechobee May 8 for the fourth of five stops in the Gator Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.
“They’re going to be killing them down there,” said FLW Tour pro Glenn Browne of Ocala, Fla., who last week won his first FLW Tour event at Fort Loudoun-Tellico lakes in Knoxville, Tenn. “The water’s up right now, and they’re chewing. Just throw something out and reel it back across the grass.
“Good baits to throw are the (Gambler) Big Easy swimbait or a (Zoom) Fluke or a (Zoom) Horny Toad,” Browne added.
Takeoff and weigh-in will be at C. Scott Driver Park located at 10100 W. Highway 78 in Okeechobee, Fla. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Lake Okeechobee BFL tournament is being hosted by the Okeechobee County Tourism Department Council.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
