OSAGE BEACH, Mo. – The Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake of the Ozarks May 1 for the second of five stops in the Ozark Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“There will be a few fish spawning, but most of them are still going to be prespawn,” said Chevy pro Dion Hibdon of Stover, Mo., who has had two FLW wins on Lake of the Ozarks. “The fish will be caught in silly-shallow water. Lake of the Ozarks is a great place to fish; if you’re not catching `em, keep moving – they’re biting somewhere. It’s going to take a bunch of weight to win this thing, probably 20 pounds or more.

“I would use a Carolina rig with a crankbait or spinnerbait; Wiggle Warts work really well. It won’t be tough; if you throw at a bank, you’ll catch a fish.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Lake of the Ozarks, Public Beach No. 2, located at 711 Public Beach Road in Osage Beach, Mo. Takeoff is scheduled for 6 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 2 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
