HENDERSON N.C. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Kerr Lake for the second of five stops in the North Carolina Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“The weather is going to be the real challenge,” said FLW Tour pro David Fritts of Lexington, N.C., who – among his many fishing accomplishments – has turned in a top-10 finish at Kerr Lake. “It’s supposed to be 80 degrees here this week, so the water temperature is likely to fluctuate between now and then – not to mention the big rains that came last week. Right now the water is at 4 feet in the trees; it may be 15 feet by next weekend.

“If the water is 7 feet or more in the trees, anglers should fish the bank. The best fish are going to be in 8 feet or less of water. If the bite is aggressive, anglers may have a lot of success using a lipless crankbait or Zoom Tuck Worm. My favorite would be the Shad Rap No. 8 in crawdad color; No. 5 or No. 7 may work too, depending on the water depth.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Satterwhite Point located at 6254 Satterwhite Point Road in Henderson, N.C. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Kerr Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Vance County Department of Tourism.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
