LOUNDON, Ky. – The Bass Fishing League is headed to Laurel River Lake April 10 for the second of five stops in the Mountain Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will compete for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“The lake has a great smallmouth population, and that’s how tournaments in the past have been won. However, the limit of two per bag may challenge some of the anglers next Saturday,” said FLW Tour pro John Devere of Berea, Ky., who has finished in the top 10 of the BFL Mountain Division points race five times. “Everyone will bring in two smallmouths, probably from the lower end of the lake near the dam. They will have to go to the upper end for their largemouths, which will be a little more difficult to catch because it is a little early for them.

“The fish are starting to bed, so anglers will want to use lizards and tubes. If it turns cool, they will want to spend the day casting a jig. It’s going to take about 20 pounds to win this tournament. Don’t be surprised to see those smallmouths come in at 4 pounds each.”

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Holly Bay Marina & Resort located at 674 Highway 1193 in London, Ky. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m., while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Laurel River Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the London/Laurel County Tourist Commission.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
