TRENTON, Mich. – The FLW Walleye Tour Eastern Division will visit the Detroit River in Trenton, Mich., April 8-10 for the first of three stops in the Eastern circuit. The tournament will feature as many as 300 walleye anglers casting for top awards up to $35,000 in the Pro Division and $7,500 in the Co-angler Division.

“It’s good to get back at it,” said Scott Steil of Richmond, Minn., who won last year’s FLW Walleye Championship. “I feel confident going into this tournament; I have only fished there twice before, but have had two good finishes including one top-10. I am excited to test all my new equipment, Lake Erie is a great fishery, and this is a good opportunity to check it out and put it to the test.

“The bigger fish are definitely going to be in the lake, but it is going to be a gamble trying to catch them. The river fishes more consistently, but the weights are going to be smaller. I don’t think 30 pounds per day will win this tournament.

“This should be the perfect time to hit the river with the early spring that we are having. The key is going to be able to adjust based on conditions. Temperatures, wind and water clarity can change rapidly, and you’re just going have to be able to adapt in order to win.”

Anglers will take off from Elizabeth Park Marina located at 200 Grosse Ile Parkway in Trenton at 7 each morning. Weigh-ins all three days will be held at the marina beginning at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m., prior to the final weigh-in, a Family Fishing Clinic will be held where fans can learn from the best the different styles, techniques and baits for landing that prized walleye.

Entries for this tournament are being accepted up until the April 7 registration date.

In FLW Walleye Tour competition, anglers are also vying for valuable points in hopes of qualifying for the 2010 FLW Walleye Tour Championship held on Leech Lake in Walker, Minn., Sept. 23-25.
