GROVE, Okla. – The Bass Fishing League is headed to Grand Lake for the first of five stops in the Okie Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“Next weekend’s tournament should hit the lake just at the right time for some good fishin’,” said Chevy pro Jimmy Houston of Cookson, Okla., who loves buzzing a spinnerbait in shallow water. “It has been a tough bite lately, but now the temperatures are starting to rise, pushing the fish into shallower water for the prespawn. And of course Grand Lake is such a great jerkbait lake – anglers should have a lot of fun.”

Lake temperatures are expected to be in the 50-degree range. If the rain continues, which it is expected to do throughout the week, many of the fish will be found in the brush, especially if the rain causes the lake to rise.

Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Grove City Ramp located at 1007 North 16th St. W. in Grove, Okla. Takeoff will be at 6:30 a.m., while weigh-in is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Grand Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
