MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Cherokee March 6 for the first of five stops in the Volunteer Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“We ain’t seen cold conditions like this in a long time,” said FLW Tour pro Jack Wade of Knoxville, Tenn. “If it stays this cold, all it could take is 10 to 12 pounds to win this tournament.

“The lake is going to be stained. Finesse-fishing with crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jerkbaits will work best in these cold conditions. If we are lucky enough to get a warming trend, you might see a big bite; the lake is capable of producing both large- and smallmouths.”

Anglers will take off and weigh in at Cherokee Park located at Boat Launch Road in Morristown, Tenn. Takeoff is at 7 a.m., while the weigh-in is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Lake Cherokee BFL tournament is being hosted by the Morristown Chamber of Commerce.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering even bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
