Alexander City, Ala. – The FLW Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Martin Feb. 13 for the first of five stops in the Bama Division series. As many as 400 pro and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000, respectively.

“Lake Martin is a unique lake to fish,” said National Guard pro Jonathan Newton of Rogersville, Ala. “The lower end of the lake is clear water fishing while upstream the lake fishes more like a river with muddy, dirty water. I like the muddy waters myself, I think the bigger fish will be found there. Whatever style anglers like they should stay committed to what they started and fish to their strengths, it all works on Lake Martin.”

Newton added that water temperatures are going to be a little cooler than normal and anglers will need to come with a lot of patience. There won’t be any spawning yet, it is still too early.

Anglers will take off from Wind Creek State Park located at 4325 Alabama Highway 128 in Alexander City, Ala., at 6:30 a.m. Weigh-in will be held at the park as well beginning at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Bass Fishing League competition is a 24-division league circuit devoted to weekend anglers, that offers even bigger prizes to regional championship qualifiers and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
