EUFAULA, Ala. – After two days of rain, thundershowers, fog, more rain and more thundershowers, the sun finally decided to make an appearance for day three of the Walmart FLW Series on Lake Eufaula.
And although the dark clouds and rain have vanished, the muddy water has not. In fact, with the sun out, the muddy water is even more conspicuous than before.
Air temperatures are not expected to drop much behind the front today, but a gusty northwest wind is expected to kick up, which is somewhat of an opposite direction than it has been blowing.
So far the consensus among BP Eastern Division anglers on where the fish are biting best is definitely down the lake – that being south of the Lakepoint State Park launch site. This morning over half the field piloted their boats south and under “The Causeway” bridge, which connects Georgetown, Ga., with Eufaula, Ala. Not much has been reported from the upper-river portion of Eufaula other than this: The mud is so thick you could plow it.
Yesterday, a spinnerbait bite was definitely on as three of the top five pros owned up to relying on the big spinners for their catch. Whether that bite continues in the bright sun Friday remains to be seen – some say sun will help, others say it will hurt.
Chevy pro Luke Clausen started the day with a spinnerbait around the riprap on one of Eufaula’s bridges.
“I didn’t think it could get any muddier,” Clausen said. “But I think it did – that sun shining down really allows you to see just how muddy the water really is.”
The day-three weigh-in of the FLW Series Eastern on Lake Eufaula will begin at 3 p.m. at Lakepoint State Park in Eufaula.
