LA PLATA, Md. – Charlie Reed Jr. didn’t catch them like he wanted Saturday, but he caught just enough to win. The co-angler from Hayes, Va., hooked into three bass weighing 7 pounds, 1 ounce and took his first Stren Series Northern Division title from the back of the boat with a four-day total of 37-14.
“I struggled a little bit today. For me to get a limit, I need about 15 bites each day. I didn’t get 15 bites today,” he said. “But it’s been a terrific day.”
Reed said he learned a lot this week from his pro partners, fishing in ways to which he’s not accustomed. He said he caught the bulk of his fish flipping mats.
Reed earned $5,000 for the win.
