FLW Outdoors Boat and Outdoor Show offers fishing, fun for whole family

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ever since FLW Outdoors incorporated an outdoor sports show with the Wal-Mart FLW Tour Championship in 2003, the FLW Outdoors Boat and Outdoor Show has grown with each passing year.

This year’s show in Birmingham promises to be the biggest and best yet, especially since some of the new equipment and tackle unveiled at the recent ICAST show in Las Vegas will be on display at the FLW Outdoors Boat and Outdoor Show this week.

Bass enthusiasts seeking the latest tackle innovations making waves at ICAST will Hot new products like Abu Garcia's Revo Reel and Berkley's FireLine Crystal will be on sale at the show.want to head to the Berkley booth to check out Abu Garcia’s new Revo Reel, FireLine’s Crystal braid and a whole new line of Gulp soft baits.

Lucky Craft will be unveiling eight new lure models in the Mark’s Outdoors booth Wednesday, and these new baits will be for sale. Also, Daiwa, G-Loomis Rods and Costa Del Mar sunglasses will be displaying and selling brand new products in the Mark’s Outdoors booth as well.

This year’s FLW Outdoors Boat and Outdoor Show is particularly inundated with fishing rods. More than seven rod companies, including Berkley, Shimano, G-Loomis, Kistler, Rogue Rods and Pinnacle, will all have rods for sale.

And as usual, the show floor is full of new boats from Ranger, Champion and Stratos, as well as all the horsepower needed to drive them from Evinrude and Yamaha.

But the latest and greatest in fishing tackle is just one facet of the FLW Outdoors expo.

Each day of the show will feature free giveaways for kids, fishing seminars by today’s top pros and registrations to win a free Ranger Z-20 Comanche.

Fishing rods abound at the FLW Outdoors Boat and Outdoor Show.Also, FLW Outdoors’ signature Family Fun Zone, put on by the Wal-Mart FLW Tour sponsors, will be in full swing during show hours with a host of games and activities for children.

All show events will be held inside the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) located on Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. North, Birmingham, Ala., 35203. Here’s a quick rundown of show hours, seminar times and show highlights.

Wednesday, Aug. 2: 2 to 8 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 3: 2 to 8 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 4: 12 to 9 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 5: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Show entry giveaways

The FLW Outdoors Boat and Outdoor Show will be providing free giveaways each day at the door to kids 12 and under who are accompanied by an adult. Here’s a rundown of the freebies:

Wednesday, Aug. 2, is FLW Outdoors Hat Day, when kids receive a free FLW Outdoors hat.

Thursday, Aug. 3, is Stren Fishing Line Day, when kids receive a free spool of Stren fishing line.

Friday, Aug. 4, is Berkley Tackle Day, when kids receive a free tackle pack from Berkley.

Saturday, Aug. 5, is Rod and Reel Combo and Fujifilm Camera Day, when kids receive a free rod-and-reel combo, and everyone through the door receives a free Fujifilm camera.

Get to the show early though, as supplies are limited and will be given away on a first-come-first-served basis.

Fishing seminars

Each day of the show, professional anglers will be on hand to provide free fishing tips and tactics.

Other show features

FSN (Fox Sports Net) will be taping a segment for the “Best Damn Sports Show Period” Friday starting at 2 p.m.

Country music recording artist Craig Morgan will be performing a free concert before Saturday’s final weigh-in starting at 4 p.m.

One lucky fishing fan’s name will be drawn to win a free Ranger Z-20 Comanche following the weigh-in Saturday at 6 p.m.
