BENTON, Ky. – It was decidedly cooler at the day-three takeoff of the EverStart Series Central Division event on Kentucky Lake, and no one’s really sure whether or not that’s going to affect the bite.
If anything slows the bite down today, it will be the intense fishing pressure on days one and two that left a lot of hot spots high and dry. At least that’s the opinion of local angler Shawn Penn, who finished fifth in the opening round.
“It’ll probably be a little slower because everybody’s pounded their fish, unless there’s somebody who’s saved them,” he said. “And there probably is.”
After an opening-day slugfest, the bite fell off a bit yesterday, forcing a few anglers to fish areas they’d hoped to save for the final rounds. Nevertheless, there are scads of fishing holes in humongous Kentucky-Barkley, and Penn says several anglers are apt to find them.
“I think they’ll bite today,” Penn said. “Somebody will always catch them on Kentucky-Barkley.”
As for the weather, Penn reported that the slightly cooler temperatures did put the bass tighter in the cover yesterday, and anglers should expect more of the same today.
Anglers will weigh in their day-three catches beginning at 4 p.m. at the Wal-Mart store located at 310 W. Fifth St. in Benton.
