The EverStart Series Central Division makes its second stop of the 2005 season at the Tombigbee Waterway in Columbus, Miss., and there is a good chance the fish will be locked on beds, or very close to it, by the time competition gets under way.

Pro Alfred Williams doesn’t think anglers will be able to see individual fish before catching them, however. The stump-studded sloughs and fingers that stem from the Aberdeen, Columbus and Aliceville pools are usually stained to muddy during the spring of the year.

Williams suggests casting jigs, spinnerbaits and buzz baits around stumps in flooded backwater sloughs. Water depths of 3 to 5 feet should be ideal.
