Wal-Mart FLW Tour pros will see an all-new Lake Toho when the tour heads to central Florida’s Kissimmee Chain of Lakes for the second qualifying event of the 2005 season. About a year ago, the Florida Game and Fish Commission teamed up with other state agencies to restore Toho to its original form. Following a drawdown, bulldozers scraped the exposed bottom to remove several years of decayed vegetation and silt. The lake rose several feet above normal following a trio of hurricanes in early fall, so chances are the shallows will be too stained to look at bass on beds. “Toho is going to fish entirely different than normal,” said pro Peter Thliveros of Jacksonville, Fla. “It is going to be high, and unless the hydrilla has been able to reestablish, the shallows are going to be turbid.” Thliveros predicts the heavier bags will come on Rat-L-Traps and soft jerkbaits cast around main-lake grass beds. Flippers are likely to find more to look at in lakes Cypress and Hatchineha, where shallow vegetation is plentiful.
