When the EverStart Series hits Arizona’s Lake Havasu in late January, anglers will likely be targeting prespawn bass around a variety of cover and structure with tubes, jigs, spinnerbaits and crankbaits, according to Lake Havasu City pro Mike Goodwin.
He thinks the better-quality fish – largemouths – will be holding in relation to main-lake structure – trees, brush, etc. – in water ranging from 5 to 20 feet. Goodwin will go after the bigger bass with a 5/8-ounce brown jig tipped with a purple pork frog.
“The angler that wins this tournament will be the one who catches the kicker largemouths,” Goodwin said.
