BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Some of FLW Outdoors’ most successful professional anglers will offer tournament-winning tips and techniques the weekend of Aug. 7-8 when they host the Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors Fishing and Automotive Clinic prior to the Wal-Mart FLW Tour Championship in Birmingham. The clinics are presented by Castrol.

Saturday’s clinic will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 890 Odum Road in Gardendale; Sunday’s clinic will take place from 4-6 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 2780 John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover. The free clinics are designed for people of all ages and skill levels, and participants are invited to ask the pros questions about fishing and automotive topics. The clinics precede the 2004 FLW Tour Championship, scheduled to take place Aug. 11-14 on Logan Martin Lake. The tournament is presented by Castrol.

The clinics take place in the Wal-Mart Tire and Lube Express Department. The first hour focuses on specific techniques the anglers use, including tips on tying knots, casting and selecting tackle. During the second hour, anglers answer questions, pose for photos and sign autographs. Participants may also enter a drawing for goodie bags filled with sponsor products, shirts and hats. The drawing takes place before the Aug. 14 tournament weigh-in at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.

Presenting anglers include Team Castrol members Bobby Curtis of Siloam Springs, Ark.; David Dudley of Lynchburg, Va.; Darrel Robertson of Jay, Okla.; Carl Svebek of Siloam Springs, Ark.; Mike Surman of Boca Raton, Fla.; and Darrell Stevens of Roseland, Va. Dudley’s past wins include the lucrative Ranger M1 tournament, having taken home the top prize of $700,000 cash in 2002, and the 2003 FLW Tour Championship, where he earned a first-place check for $500,000.

“Getting involved in the communities hosting the Wal-Mart FLW Tour has been a great way for sponsors to give back and to thank the anglers and tournament fans who have been loyal consumers of our products for many years,” said Castrol representative Tracy Curtis. “Fishing is a wonderful family activity that has no boundaries on who can participate. We are dedicated to helping anglers of all skill levels learn new tricks of the trade and promoting the sport to a new generation of anglers.”
