Andy Morgan has a business date on Kentucky/Barkley lakes June 2-5, and will probably go cranking along the banks of the Tennessee River in search of a winning pattern in the final EverStart Series Central Division event of the season.

“The bass should be on the river ledges, big-time,” Morgan said. “The spawn will be over, and they’ll be bunched up in tight wads. Where you catch one, there are likely to be others. This could be one of those tournaments where a guy will sit in one spot and sack up 15 to 18 pounds in 10 minutes or less.”

In addition to deep-diving crankbaits, Morgan predicts there will be plenty of hefty limits caught up and down the lake on Texas-rigged worms and Carolina rigs. The Dayton, Tenn., pro says the bass will be relating to stumps, logs and defined breaklines in 8 to 20 feet of water.

Something anglers will need to keep in mind when plotting a strategy is water level. Morgan said unseasonably high water levels would hold the bigger bass in bushes, which could promote a strong flipping pattern around willows and buck brush in Barkley Lake.

“I don’t think it will happen, but it could,” Morgan said. “If there is 3 feet of water in the bushes, the bass will be in there too.”

Morgan’s call: 27 pounds to make the first cut; 37 to 38 pounds to win it.
