MINNEAPOLIS – This week on “FLW Outdoors” television, watch as the world’s best walleye anglers compete in the $1.4 million Wal-Mart RCL Walleye Championship. The walleye-fishing championship – having concluded Oct. 4 – takes place on the Mississippi River in Red Wing, Minn. Pro anglers try to overcome difficult fishing conditions to take home the top prize of $300,000 cash.

A week of northerly wind and fluctuating temperatures in Red Wing produced low water and made finding fish tough for the 220 pros competing in the event. Six anglers qualified for the finals with Tom Keenan of Hatley, Wis., claiming the $300,000 check.
Keenan was the only pro to weigh in a five-fish limit every day of the tournament. Also on the show will be anglers who were favored by locals during the championship, including Jerry Hein of Stillwater, Minn., and Scott Allar of Welch, Minn., along with semifinalists Randy Carroll of Oswego, Ill., and Sam Anderson of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.

The Wal-Mart RCL Walleye Championship is named after the top boats in walleye fishing – Ranger, Crestliner and Lund, all products of Genmar, the world’s largest builder of recreational boats.

Hosted by Carlton Wing, Taylor Carr and Charlie Evans, “FLW Outdoors” coverage of the RCL Walleye Championship airs Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. and again Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. Eastern time on the Outdoor Life Network. Check local listings for show times and channels in your area. An “FLW Outdoors” TV schedule is available online.
