MINNEAPOLIS – This week “FLW Outdoors” television will provide full coverage of the FLW Tour’s Wal-Mart Open that took place last week on Arkansas’ Beaver Lake. One hundred seventy-five of the world’s best anglers were back on the lake to compete in the annual event that boasted a $1.26 million purse this year. Anglers encountered rapidly changing weather conditions as they entered the final round, where 10 finalists fished for the $200,000 top prize. FLW Tour rookie Russ Moran of Murfreesboro, Tenn., led the way into the finals with Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year leader Dan Morehead of Paducah, Ky., ultimately winning the tournament.

Temperatures ranged from 29 degrees at takeoff on day one to the mid-70s on days three and four, causing anglers to use a wide variety of patterns to catch fish. Day two was marked by a two-hour fog delay at takeoff. Major adjustments were required from previous tournaments, when many anglers targeted spawning bass. This year’s event took place before the spawn and greatly changed the complexion of the competition.
