‘FLW Outdoors’ to recap Atchafalaya Basin event with top FLW Tour finishers

MINNEAPOLIS – This week on “FLW Outdoors” television, co-host and angling veteran Larry Nixon talks to the top three finishers from the second event of the Wal-Mart FLW Tour that took place earlier this month on the Atchafalaya Basin in Louisiana. Nixon talks with the champion, veteran Paul Elias of Pachuta, Miss.; runner-up Bill Chapman of Salt Rock, W.Va.; and rookie Dave Lefebre of Erie, Pa., who made the finals in only his second FLW Tour appearance.

Saturday’s program, airing from 7 to 8 p.m. EST on the Outdoor Life Network, will reveal how Elias gambled in the finals by running to isolated water he had not fished in competition, and how it paid off with a $100,000 first-place check. He will explain, in detail, how he used a 3/8-ounce spinner bait to grab the lead heading into the finals after starting the tournament in 20th place. And he will show viewers how switching to a buzzbait on the final day of competition helped add crucial pounds to his winning catch of 10 bass weighing 34 pounds, 2 ounces.

Also featured in Saturday’s broadcast is finalist Gary Klein of Weatherford, Texas, who questions a decision he made that may have cost him the tournament. Last year’s championship winner and runner-up – John Sappington of Wyandotte, Okla., and Gerald Swindle of Hayden, Ala., respectively – will also make an appearance to help set the stage for 2003’s “Road to Richmond, Va.,” where the FLW Tour will wrap up its season with the $1.5 million Jacobs Cup world championship of bass fishing Sept. 10-13 on the James River.
