MINNEAPOLIS – This week’s edition of the “FLW Outdoors” television show will take a behind-the-scenes look at the season’s first Wal-Mart FLW Tour event, a four-day tournament presented by EverStart Batteries that was held on Florida’s Lake Okeechobee.

Saturday’s program, airing from 7 to 8 p.m. EST on the Outdoor Life Network, features “FLW Outdoors” hosts Carlton Wing, Taylor Carr and Charlie Evans interviewing the world’s best bass anglers, who faced unusually chilly conditions on Lake Okeechobee. “FLW Outdoors” takes you to Clewiston, Fla., where temperatures in the low 30s and winds gusting to 30 mph challenged finalists at the $500,000 stop along the 2003 FLW Tour.

Finalists included two-time Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year Clark Wendlandt of Cedar Park, Texas; local favorite Mike Surman of Boca Raton, Fla., who won the FLW Tour’s first event in 1996 on Lake Okeechobee; former FLW Tour winner Dan Morehead of Paducah, Ky.; and, of course, the 2003 “Big O” champion, Pat Fisher of Buford, Ga.

Anglers said the conditions were the toughest they had ever seen on Lake Okeechobee, which is considered one of America’s premier bass fisheries. “FLW Outdoors” follows the 10 finalists in their boats, showing how they adjusted to the adverse conditions that forced them to rethink their strategies. Highlights of this week’s show include a 27-pound stringer caught in the qualifying round and two huge bass that pushed the scales close to the 10-pound mark.

OLN will broadcast “FLW Outdoors” every Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. EST and again on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. EST. Check local listings for show times and channels in your area.

Wing and Carr will go on location to provide on-the-water coverage during each tournament show. While tournament weigh-ins are broadcast live at Wal-Mart stores throughout the country, “FLW Outdoors” will be tape-delayed by exactly one week throughout the season to bring the best tournament footage possible to audiences nationwide.

FLW Outdoors is the industry’s premier provider of sport-fishing tournaments, including the Wal-Mart FLW Tour, the world’s most lucrative bass-fishing circuit; the EverStart Series, known as the gateway to the FLW Tour; the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League for weekend anglers; the Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail; the Wal-Mart RCL Walleye Tour, the world’s most lucrative walleye-fishing circuit; and the Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League for weekend anglers.
