Buie wins $5,475 in Red Man event

OTTSBORO, Ala., – Greg Buie of Harvest, Ala., out-fished 174 competitors Saturday to earn $5,475 and 50 CITGO Challenge Points on the boater side of the Red Man Tournament Trail’s Bama Division event on Guntersville Lake.

Buie caught five bass weighing 19 pounds during the one-day event to top Billy Gentry of Huntsville, Ala., who finished with a five-bass catch of 16-8 worth $2,737. Buie caught his limit, including a 7-pound, 2-ounce largemouth that earned him $870 as the Abu Garcia Big Bass in the Boater Division, out of shallow grass in the upper end of the lake using a buzzbaits and spinnerbaits.

David Bohannon of Eclectic, Ala., took third place and collected $1,369 with five bass weighing 15-9. Marshall Deacons of Dunlap, Tenn., placed fourth and earned $1,186 with five bass weighing 15-0, while Edward Gettys of Stevenson, Ala., placed fifth and earned $1,095 with five bass weighing 14-12.

First place in the Co-Angler Division and $2,737 went to David Koski of Canton, Ga., who topped 174 competitors with five bass weighing 15-4. Second place in the Co-Angler Division and $1,369 went to Stanley Taylor of Decatur, Ala., for five bass weighing 14-9, while Jimmy Davis of Eclectic, Ala., took third place and $684 with five bass weighing 13-11.

Koski also won the co-angler Abu Garcia Big Bass Award of $435 with a 6-pound largemouth that he caught near shallow grass on a topwater bait.

Overall, 470 bass weighing 1,131 pounds, 9 ounces were caught during the tournament, including 26 five bass limits.

On July 15, the Red Man Tournament Trail will visit Logan Marin Lake for the fourth of five events in the Bama Division. The boater with the most CITGO Challenge points after the division’s season finale, a two-day Super Tournament Sept. 23-24 on Neely Henry Lake, will be declared the Divisional Points Champion and awarded $1,000. The co-angler amassing the most points by the end of the season will receive $500.
