GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – Britt Cone, 41, of Benton, Ky., out-fished 129 competitors Saturday to earn $4,519 and 50 CITGO Challenge Points on the boater side of the Red Man Tournament Trail’s LBL Division event on Kentucky Lake.
Cone caught five largemouth bass weighing 16 pounds, 3 ounces during the one-day event to top Ray Barga of Gilbertsville, Ky., who finished with a five-bass catch of 14-6 worth $2,259. Cone caught his limit off of a ledge in 10- to 15-feet of water using a 9 1/2-inch plum-colored worm.
Daniel York of Benton took third place and collected $1,130 with five bass weighing 14-4. Rodney Tidwell of Murray, Ky., placed fourth and earned $979 with five bass weighing 13-14, while Terry Bolton of Paducah, Ky., placed fifth and earned $904 with five bass weighing 13-6.
Herbie Booher of West Paducah, Ky., won the Abu Garcia Big Bass Award in the Boater Division and collected $645 with a 6-pound, 8-ounce largemouth that he caught on a Carolina-rigged worm.
First place in the Co-Angler Division and $2,259 went to Danny Kincaid, 52, of Cincinnati, Ohio, who topped 129 competitors with four largemouth bass weighing 9-0. Second place in the Co-Angler Division and $1,130 went to Mike Cole of Louisville, Ky., with four bass weighing 8-13, while Michael King of Hendersonville, Tenn., took third place and $565 with three bass weighing 7-15.
Brendan Murphy of Murray and Sam Loveless of Somerset, Ky., tied for the co-angler Abu Garcia Big Bass Award with a 5-pound, 1-ounce bass apiece. Each man received $161.
Roger Pickard of Benton won the Berkley Power Bait award, a package of baits valued at $200, for the heaviest overall catch on Power Bait or Frenzy lures. He caught two bass weighing 3-15.
On July 8, the Red Man Tournament Trail will visit Barkley Lake for the fourth of five events in the LBL Division. The boater with the most CITGO Challenge points after the division’s season finale, a two-day Super Tournament Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 on Kentucky Lake, will be declared the Divisional Points Champion and awarded $1,000. The co-angler amassing the most points by the end of the season will receive $500.
