Fukae began competing on the FLW Tour in 2004 and promptly won the coveted Angler of the Year title. He nearly repeated the feat in 2007, but fell just short of catching Jay Yelas by 20 points. Fukae has amassed more than $1 million with FLW and has qualified for the Forrest Wood Cup almost every year, only missing the cut his second year on Tour. In 2006 he became one of the few anglers to win two Tour events in one season (Lake Okeechobee and Beaver Lake).
Fukae, the only person to win Angler of the Year titles in two countries (U.S. and Japan), loves to finesse fish and calls Lake Champlain his favorite body of water. Fukae is accompanied by his wife, Miyu, at every event. She is often seen taking photographs whenever Fukae is near and has a collection that can rival any professional photographer. Fukae’s most memorable fishing moments was winning AOY his rookie year (2004) as well as his first FLW Tour win on Lake Okeechobee in 2006. Fukae calls Kevin Van Dam his hero and enjoys cleaning his boat, truck and motor home when he’s not fishing.
